Should Energy Drinks Be Outlawed In The United States?

With all the publicity circulating around the internet, print advertising, radio and television around the world about the possibility of energy drinks being bad for people’s health is it any wonder that people are lobbying for more laws regulating the sale, consumption, and manufacturing of energy drinks?  Some of these people are even lobbying for energy drinks to be outlawed in the United States and other countries.  France has already outlawed some energy drinks and other countries are looking at the possibility of doing so as well.

What is it about these energy drinks that scares these people so very much that they would reduce their and everyone elses freedom to outlaw them?  These are the basic facts where they concern energy drinks and some of these peoples fears:

Energy drinks contain dangerous amounts of caffeine and they are not safe to sell to the general public.

The amount of caffeine in a energy drink (8 Ounce) that these people are worried about is about the same as you would find in a cup of coffee.  Wow!  Cosider the consequences of their statements.  If the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee is to dangerous for you to drink maybe it should be outlawed as well?

The high sugar content in energy drinks is bad for your health and should not be sold to minors.

Ok so if we follow this statement to its obvious, and ridiculous in my opinion, conclusion then minors should not be able to buy candy, Coke, Pepsi or other soft drinks.  So much for trick or treating the police would have to be out there arresting minors all day and all night on Halloween.

Energy drinks contain dangerous stimulants that we should not be allowed to take.

While the “dangerous stimulants “varies from energy drink to energy drink the most common ingredients include:

Ginseng a common stimulant used for increasing alertness and a boost of energy.  It is found in a wide variety of products including energy drinks, dietary supplements, weight loss supplements and many more should all of these products be illegal as well?  Ginseng has been used for hundreds of years.
Guarana is a naturally occurring plant that produces caffeine when consumed.  South America gets the vast majority of its caffeine from Guarana.  Interestingly enough tests with Guarana have found that its consumption increased cognitive functions.  Another study that took patients taking Guarana and Yerba Mate and to see if they increased weight loss, the study showed an average loss of 11.2 pounds during the test period.  Should all of South America be denied caffeine because the plant that they have harvested for centuries for their caffeine is to dangerous for them?

The vitamin B-12 has also begun to be used in many energy drinks.  While there is no indication if all energy drinks will begin to have the vitamin B-12 put in their energy drinks it is an ingredient in some.  Should the vitamin B-12 be outlawed as to dangerous as well?
