Why Energy Drinks Have B-12 and What it Does ?
Energy drinks are under fire as being to full of caffeine and sugar. Even though commercial energy drinks have been used since 1901 safely ! They are not talking about the damages artificial sweeteners do to your metabolism. Energy drinks that are taken give a boost of energy and clear the tired mind allowing many people from students to professionals to successfully get through their day.
Among the many ingredients that have been proven effective for weight loss, improved alertness, increased upper body stamina and are in many energy drinks is B-12. B-12 is a vitamin that is essential for our bodies to operate at full capacity. This is not the only vitamin commonly found in energy drinks but it is a good one to start with.
In order to fully understand why the B-12 found in energy drinks is so essential to our bodies, we first need to look at the consequences of not having enough B-12 in our bodies. Clinical testing has shown the following detrimental effects on human bodies when vitamin B-12 drops to low levels:
When levels of vitamin B-12 drop too far memory loss has occurred. The memory loss has been shown to be directly linked to the vitamin B-12 deficiency.
Tingling of the extremities including the legs, arms, hands and feet have been linked with low levels of vitamin B-12.
Hallucination and dementia have both been linked to low levels of vitamin B-12.
Vitamin B-12 deficiencies have been misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease.
Now that we have looked at some of the detrimental effects of vitamin B-12 deficiencies the critical need our bodies have for vitamin B-12 in energy drinks or other supplements becomes apparent. The manufacturers of energy drinks with vitamin B-12 are not afraid to make the most of their advertising dollar by making sure everyone knows their energy drinks offer plenty of vitamin B-12.
But do we really benefit when we get our vitamin B-12 from energy drinks?
Cutting edge clinical tests have shown conclusively that over the counter energy drinks, vitamins and dietary supplements with vitamin B-12 in them can lose the effectiveness of the vitamin B-12 due to many reasons. If the vitamin B-12 is exposed to sunlight or other ultraviolet light it will lose its beneficial properties. The loss of benefits in vitamin B-12 rather it is in energy drinks or other forms is termed degradation.
In order to insure that the energy drink you choose is giving you the full benefit of the vitamin B-12 in it, select energy drinks packaged cans or bottles made of aluminum. This also has the added advantage of being more likely to be recycled when compared to plastic bottles. If you do have to select a energy drink packaged in a plastic bottle for some reason find one that is not see through. This will block the sunlight and other ultraviolet light from the energy drink, thus preserving the efficiency of the vitamin B-12 and other nutrients found in your energy drink.
